Patches: Camp Boss & Head of Security

Alright, listen up. You might have heard some... stories... from the other one, Shadow. She means well, bless her heart, but she clearly doesn't understand who's actually in charge around here. That would be me, Patches. Australian Red Heeler. And yes, my fur is this glorious because I work for it.

I joined this "pack" (which I promptly reorganized) back in December of 2018. Before me, it was pure chaos, I tell you. Nobody knew where anything was. Now, things run like a well-oiled machine... mostly. My primary duties include:

  1. Motor Home Entry Protocol: I'm always, always the first one in the motor home. It's a matter of principle. Someone has to secure the perimeter and sniff out any unauthorized squirrel scents before anyone else can bring their clumsy human feet inside.
  2. Chicken Patrol: I've got a flock of 25 feathered recruits. And yes, I keep a very close eye on them. Multiple times a day, I conduct full perimeter checks, make sure they aren't getting into trouble, and generally remind them who's boss. It’s a full-time job. The irony isn't lost on me that I'm allergic to chicken (the food, not my troops!). But hey, a good leader makes sacrifices. My humans have me on a special diet of fish and all the fresh veggies I can eat. Honestly, it's probably just a ploy to keep me in peak physical condition for all this exploring.
  3. Collar Evasion: While some lesser dogs enjoy being choked by a piece of leather or nylon, I prefer to maintain full neck mobility. A true leader must always be ready to turn their head swiftly to direct traffic or investigate a suspicious rustle in the bushes.
  4. Chief Explorer: Shadow thinks she's a "Canine Explorer." Please. I'm the one scouting the best trails, identifying prime sniffing locations, and making sure the humans don't wander off the path. Adventure is my middle name, but organized adventure is my specialty.

So, while Shadow is busy "marking territory" (she thinks she's so clever), I'm the one making sure this whole operation doesn't fall apart. You'll be hearing more from me. Probably with updates on squirrel incursions and how many times I had to remind Shadow that it's my turn for belly rubs.
